The good news is that we can avoid or break free of that pattern by incorporating spirituality into a daily self-care regimen. The great news is that this doesn’t have to be complicated! Try out some of these quick tips for daily spiritual self-care and see how small things really can have a big affect on your whole outlook.

What are the Negative Effects of Not Having a Daily Self-Care Routine?

Our mind, body and soul need to be nourished daily. When this does not happen, the impact of daily stress can have a deep impact on our daily spiritual balance. The negative effects of this can show up in our work life, love connections, self-care and spiritual stability. You might not recognize this happening until you feel completely unable to function and relationships around you start to fall apart. You may even feel depleted mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Before it comes to this, let's get busy acquiring some daily practices to keep you nourished and balanced for the everyday bliss you deserve.

How to Start a Daily Self-Care Practice: Deep Belly Breathing

You may be saying to yourself, “I don't even know where to start” because you just feel so overwhelmed at the moment. A great way to begin is with your breath. Breathwork is an important part of so many spiritual traditions for a reason. We all have to breathe, right? That makes the breath a perfect place to start when you are creating a daily spiritual routine for relaxation.

So, let's take a deep belly breath and inhale love within and then exhale and let go of every single stress that has been taking space inside you. Do this a few times until you feel a bit more relaxed and grounded.

I promise you that just by taking the time to do this you will feel more balanced and energized and accomplish so much more in a day.

Quick Spiritual Practices for Your Morning

Meditation

Now that you feel more grounded and relaxed, let's discover more daily spiritual routines that will benefit you on so many levels and keep you at peace, grounded and stable. Meditation is so important in your spiritual journey in helping create rejuvenation, peacefulness and grounding.

Some people think that meditation has to be long or done in a very specific way to be useful, but that’s not the case at all. A five-minute meditation is certainly better than no time spent meditating at all. And you can approach those five minutes in a way that makes the most sense for you. If emptying your mind and focusing on your breath works for you, do that. Find that your thoughts drift off? Try listening to a guided meditation. Is restlessness a problem? Work with prayer beads or try a moving meditation. You’ll find it’s much easier to stick with a good habit if it works well for you. Decide which type of meditation makes the most sense for you.

Journaling

In the morning after doing a short meditation, it's always great to journal anything down that may have come to you during your practice. It's also powerful to recognize and write down anything you are grateful for in the moment. You may also find it helpful to incorporate regular daily affirmations for spiritual growth. Finishing off by reading a short inspirational quote or watching a quick inspirational video can be very helpful as well.

Energy Clearing

If you are highly sensitive and pick up on a lot of the energy around you (either from people or from the turmoil in the world right now) you may find it very helpful to use a smudging stick every morning to clear your energy as well. Sometimes it's also nice to pick some of your favorite incense or even light a candle during your daily spiritual meditation practice.

Take Your Spirituality Outdoors

Next, let's take a look at some of the outdoor spiritual practices that you can use to help your spirit stay well-nourished and balanced. Fresh air and sunlight are very important—and you don’t need to do anything more than sit outside to soak in the benefits if that’s all you have the time or energy for.

Just taking a few minutes every day to sit in the sun can be so nourishing and uplifting. While you're sitting, take a moment to connect with the sounds around you of chirping birds, mountains, trees, flowers. This simple practice brings in a surprising amount of positive, nourishing energy in just a few short minutes.

If you have a bit more energy, try taking a walk to connect with more of the sights and sounds around you. You may even like to walk barefoot for a bit, to physically ground yourself to the earth beneath your feet. If you can find a tree that calls to you or that you gravitate to, I would give it a hug. You’ll be surprised just how much great energy you will receive from doing this.

Friends walking together

Physical Movement as a Spiritual Practice

Another great way to support and stabilize your spiritual care is by incorporating some yoga a few times a week or even daily. Yoga is a wonderful form of moving meditation and is a great addition to any physical activity you might already be doing.

As, I mentioned above, taking regular walks in nature can also be a great way to hit the refresh button and create a positive energy shift throughout your body. Walking with a friend from time to time can also be soul nourishing. Just be sure that anyone who joins you on your spiritual wellness walks is a positive, supportive individual. Otherwise, you might not feel very spiritually uplifted by the time you finish your walk.

Other ways to add spirituality to your day is to make time for listening to music, creating art, or simply dancing. All of those can be healing to your inner child and are fun ways to diffuse any stress that you might have encountered during your day. Chanting can also be a great spiritual experience that can bring great wisdom and enlightenment.

The Importance of Discipline in a Daily Practice

Discipline is going to be very important in your spiritual daily practice. We are living in an intense and overwhelming time right now. There is so much going on around us, making it even more important than ever before to maintain a soul-soothing daily routine. Without discipline in your daily spiritual routine, you may possibly experience energy gaps in your spiritual strength. That spiritual strength might be the thing that gets you through an especially stressful moment, so you always want to be cultivating it.

Discipline will also help clear your heart center, so you are not creating blockages in your energy. Love will be able to flow in and out of you much more easily when your heart center is clear. This in turn supports healthy relationships with others—and yourself.

Making Your Daily Spiritual Routine Work for You

Please keep in mind that everyone's spiritual daily practices will be unique to their own spiritual beliefs pertaining to their religion, culture and other aspects. It's important to understand that following what makes you feel good is where it's at. You don't have to restrict yourself or force yourself into any other person's belief system. Choose practices that resonate with you or modify them until they feel right. Your daily spiritual routine should fit who you are, making you feel comfortable and supported. Otherwise, you may block your ability to expand and blossom in areas of wisdom and enlightenment.

Also be mindful that your daily spiritual routine may change from time to time due to the evolution of your soul. Be willing to make the changes that will best nourish your soul on a daily basis. You are the only one that knows what your spiritual self is craving. Self-reflection is key. It’s so important check in with yourself so that you can lovingly give yourself what you need.

Attuning to your own self needs takes concentration and attention. You may find it helpful to dedicate a journal to collect your thoughts on your spiritual wants and needs. It can be very helpful to regularly reflect on the question, "What does my spiritual self-need to feel more whole, loved and peaceful?"
